Oregonian reporter Steve Mayes has
a post on OregonLive that says Canby Democrat Kurt Schrader got the official nod today from Oregon AFSCME to replace Darlene Hooley in Oregon 5th Congressional District.
Schrader "is our best hope for keeping a pro-labor representative in the Fifth District" said Joe Baessler, the union's political coordinator. "Sen. Schrader supports working people's right to organize and form unions, and that is always a key point with our membership."
"We have a long relationship with Kurt Schrader and it has always been an excellent working relationship," Baessler said.
Schrader faces Steve Marks, who served as Gov. John Kitzhaber's chief of staff, in the May 20 primary.
"I have a good record of support for working families and I intend to demonstrate that over the course of the campaign," Marks said. "His record on labor certainly can't match mine."
